Sleep Apnea & Airway Dentistry
Oral appliance therapy, Vivos DNA appliances, and airway-focused dental solutions evaluated with sleep medicine physicians.
What This Treatment Involves
Obstructive sleep apnea occurs when airway tissues collapse during sleep, interrupting breathing. Custom dental oral appliances gently reposition the lower jaw forward to maintain an open upper airway. Treatment is coordinated with sleep physicians who provide formal medical diagnosis and overnight sleep study oversight.
Appliance & Airway Care Process
Examination of bite, dental arches, oral habits, and medical sleep history with Dr. Piela.
Individualized appliance design (such as Vivos DNA, Spark aligner, or NightLase laser plan).
Periodic check-ups to review wear, comfort, bite alignment, and treatment progress.
When Considered & What Evaluation Involves
Assessment includes airway evaluation, jaw joint (TMJ) examination, dentition check, and review of physician sleep study findings.
Considerations & Clinical Context
Oral appliance therapy is primarily indicated for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea or for patients with severe apnea who cannot tolerate CPAP. Continuous medical follow-up is necessary.
Our Approach at the Practice
Dr. Piela works closely with medical sleep specialists to monitor appliance fit, bite stability, and therapeutic comfort.
