Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)
Platelet-rich fibrin prepared from a patient's own blood may be used to support healing during selected dental procedures.
What This Treatment Involves
Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is an autologous biomaterial prepared chairside from a small sample of the patient's own blood without synthetic additives. The centrifuged fibrin matrix concentrates platelets, white blood cells, and natural growth factors to assist soft tissue and bone healing following extractions, bone grafting, or implant surgery.
General 3-Stage Restorative Care Overview
Discussion of medical history, oral health, and necessary 2D/3D diagnostic imaging.
Collaborative selection of biocompatible materials, conservative techniques, and care steps.
Placement of the restoration and periodic review to ensure long-term stability and comfort.
When Considered & What Evaluation Involves
Medical history review confirms that a small chairside blood draw can be safely performed prior to the surgical procedure.
Considerations & Clinical Context
While PRF provides a natural autologous matrix that supports tissue healing, normal post-operative recovery timelines and surgical precautions still apply.
Our Approach at the Practice
Dr. Piela discusses PRF as an option for patients undergoing oral surgery who wish to utilize their body's own healing components.
